{"id":1052,"date":"2012-07-14T01:12:12","date_gmt":"2012-07-14T06:12:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.maryjoandwill.com\/?p=1052"},"modified":"2012-07-14T02:12:14","modified_gmt":"2012-07-14T07:12:14","slug":"fourth-of-july","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.maryjoandwill.com\/?p=1052","title":{"rendered":"Fourth of July"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Fourth of July must be blogged!\u00a0 For some reason, I thought we had already blogged about this, so it&#8217;s going up pretty late.\u00a0 Anyway, so our plan was to go to Gasworks Park for the Fremont Family Fourth of July.\u00a0 There was supposed to be live music and food and such, and it was the place to be to see the fireworks later.\u00a0 We walked along the canal for a while and took some pictures of boats.\u00a0 (Click to embiggen.)<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/willz.org\/hosted\/blog\/exploringseattle01\/IMG_4022.JPG\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" title=\"Boats\" src=\"http:\/\/willz.org\/hosted\/blog\/exploringseattle01\/IMG_4022_small.JPG\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We also saw the Fremont Bridge raised to let the taller boats through.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/nCZ1-o6vHNc\" frameborder=\"0\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Some boats were not so speedy. Notice they&#8217;re towing an inner tube with a cooler.\u00a0 At least they don&#8217;t have to worry about making a wake?<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/willz.org\/hosted\/blog\/exploringseattle01\/IMG_4028.JPG\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" title=\"Paddle\" src=\"http:\/\/willz.org\/hosted\/blog\/exploringseattle01\/IMG_4028_small.JPG\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>So we got to the park and there was a gigantic line down the block to get in.\u00a0 We thought it was free, so we were wondering why there would be a line to get in.\u00a0 Since things looked so busy and Will doesn&#8217;t like crowds, we decided to go to the store and get some food to make at home instead.\u00a0 Later I decided the line to get in was probably because of security screening.<\/p>\n<p>So we made the terrible decision to walk uphill for a while to get to the food place.\u00a0 We got stuff to grill kabobs on our tiny patio.\u00a0 Our street is a gigantic hill and on a clear day you can see Mt. Rainier from the top.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/willz.org\/hosted\/blog\/exploringseattle01\/IMG_4027.JPG\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" title=\"Rainier\" src=\"http:\/\/willz.org\/hosted\/blog\/exploringseattle01\/IMG_4027_small.JPG\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Rainier is an active volcano covered with glaciers 54 miles from Seattle. It&#8217;s tall; you can see the clouds to the left.\u00a0 Incidentally, its <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Mount_Rainier\">Wikipedia page<\/a> is an interesting read.\u00a0 We also saw some unusual topiary on our way home.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/willz.org\/hosted\/blog\/exploringseattle01\/IMG_4025.JPG\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" title=\"Topiary\" src=\"http:\/\/willz.org\/hosted\/blog\/exploringseattle01\/IMG_4025_small.JPG\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>So we had our food at home and then went back down to the canal to see if we could find a good spot to watch the fireworks.\u00a0 Some other people had the same idea.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/willz.org\/hosted\/blog\/exploringseattle01\/IMG_4029.JPG\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" title=\"Fireworks\" src=\"http:\/\/willz.org\/hosted\/blog\/exploringseattle01\/IMG_4029_small.JPG\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The weather was really nice.\u00a0 We watched the boats while we were waiting.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/willz.org\/hosted\/blog\/exploringseattle01\/IMG_4031.JPG\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" title=\"Boat\" href=\"http:\/\/willz.org\/hosted\/blog\/exploringseattle01\/IMG_4032.JPG\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" title=\"Boat\" src=\"http:\/\/willz.org\/hosted\/blog\/exploringseattle01\/IMG_4032_small.JPG\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/willz.org\/hosted\/blog\/exploringseattle01\/IMG_4036.JPG\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" title=\"Moon\" src=\"http:\/\/willz.org\/hosted\/blog\/exploringseattle01\/IMG_4036_small.JPG\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>And fireworks<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/willz.org\/hosted\/blog\/exploringseattle01\/IMG_4043.JPG\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" title=\"Fireworks\" src=\"http:\/\/willz.org\/hosted\/blog\/exploringseattle01\/IMG_4043_small.JPG\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The fireworks were set to music that you could hear if you watched from Gasworks Park or if you tuned in on a radio.\u00a0 Initially, I was kind of bummed because we didn&#8217;t have radio, but luckily someone near us had one, so we got to hear the music.<\/p>\n<p>After the fireworks, we went home.\u00a0 A lot of people who were near us either parked in Fremont or live in Fremont, because we ended up walking back in a bit of a herd.\u00a0 Then
