{"id":1074,"date":"2012-07-20T18:34:29","date_gmt":"2012-07-20T23:34:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.maryjoandwill.com\/?p=1074"},"modified":"2012-07-20T18:34:29","modified_gmt":"2012-07-20T23:34:29","slug":"exploring-seattle-woodland-park-zoo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.maryjoandwill.com\/?p=1074","title":{"rendered":"Exploring Seattle &#8211; Woodland Park Zoo"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Last Saturday we went to Woodland Park Zoo.\u00a0 Unfortunately, we didn&#8217;t take any pictures there, which is kind of unusual for us.\u00a0 I&#8217;m not sure why we didn&#8217;t take any pictures.\u00a0 I&#8217;m consoling myself with the thought that most of our dear readers have been to a zoo, so they don&#8217;t need pictures of one.\u00a0 Plus, we have tons of zoo pictures on the blog from that zoo in Vienna <a title=\"Vienna (Day 2)\" href=\"http:\/\/www.maryjoandwill.com\/?p=437\"> in the winter<\/a> and\u00a0<a title=\"Day 04 \u2013 Vienna\" href=\"http:\/\/www.maryjoandwill.com\/?p=694\">in the spring<\/a>.\u00a0 I must admit the zoo in Vienna was cooler, but Woodland Park Zoo is also nice, especially considering it&#8217;s well within walking distance of our apartment.<\/p>\n<p>We checked out a nearby garden before going into the zoo.\u00a0 They have a &#8220;sensory garden&#8221; hidden way behind the main part.\u00a0 Here you find herbs and plants that you&#8217;re allowed to touch, smell, and taste.\u00a0 There are little signs telling you the names of the plants and what to do with each one.\u00a0 My favorites were the lamb&#8217;s ear and the rosemary.<\/p>\n<p>The zoo itself was a zoo.\u00a0 I particularly liked the brown bear and the hippo.\u00a0 I had never seen a Komodo dragon before; Will liked him too.\u00a0 They had a few gorillas.\u00a0 Seeing gorillas in zoos makes me a bit sad because they&#8217;re so human-like.\u00a0 Is it crazy to think that they deserve basic human rights?\u00a0 I mean not the right to vote or anything but just to be free from harm and have their interests taken into account.\u00a0 One of them seemed to delight in entertaining the crowd by serenely barfing into her hand and then leisurely eating it, but again, very human-like.<\/p>\n<p>They had way too many snakes along with one legless lizard.\u00a0 There was a difference but I don&#8217;t quite remember what it was; I think it was eyelids.\u00a0 They had a king cobra, the largest venomous snake in the world.\u00a0 They&#8217;re the ones with the hoods that kind of partially stand up straight.\u00a0 Also very freaky was this gigantic spider in a web with no glass around it at all.\u00a0 They just trust the spider to hang out in the web I guess.<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s really all I have to say about the zoo.\u00a0 I&#8217;ll ask Will later if he&#8217;d like to add something.\u00a0 We didn&#8217;t do much else that day because the next day we had plans to go to the Space Needle and to the Aquarium.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Last Saturday we went to Woodland Park Zoo.\u00a0 Unfortunately, we didn&#8217;t take any pictures there, which is kind of unusual for us.\u00a0 I&#8217;m not sure why we didn&#8217;t take any pictures.\u00a0 I&#8217;m consoling myself with the thought that most of our dear readers have been to a zoo, so they don&#8217;t need pictures of one.\u00a0 [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[1],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-1074","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-uncategorized"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.maryjoandwill.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/1074"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.maryjoandwill.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.maryjoandwill.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.maryjoandwill.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.maryjoandwill.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=1074"}],"version-history":[{"count":1,"href":"https:\/\/www.maryjoandwill.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/1074\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":1075,"href":"https:\/\/www.maryjoandwill.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/1074\/revisions\/1075"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.maryjoandwill.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=1074"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.maryjoandwill.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcategories&post=1074"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.maryjoandwill.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftags&post=1074"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
