I got a job.\u00a0 It’s with Kaplan, which most people know as a company that does SAT and ACT prep classes and materials.\u00a0 In fact, I had a little book from them for my own SAT prep way back in the day.\u00a0 Anyway, not only do they do test prep, but they also offer ESL classes to international students; that’s what I’ll be doing.\u00a0 My training starts tomorrow where I’ll fill out paperwork and observe some classes and hopefully get textbooks.\u00a0 Then on Wednesday I’ll be covering for someone already.\u00a0 They’ll give me a lesson plan.\u00a0 I think it will be really similar to the kind of thing I did in Austria, except the students are mostly from countries in Asia.<\/p>\n
In August, I’ll be doing some subbing at Highline Community College, which is about 25 miles away.\u00a0 Then in September they’re planning to move me to the University of Washington which is extremely bus-able as well as bike-able.\u00a0 It’s pretty exciting that it’s not too far away.<\/p>\n
Today I have to go to the main office of Puget Sound Educational Service District to get fingerprinted for my Washington teaching license.\u00a0 I’ll also hand in all the materials to get the ball rolling on that.\u00a0 The job with Kaplan is part-time, so subbing for surrounding school districts might be an option.\u00a0 I don’t need the license for the job with Kaplan, but yer darn tootin’ I still want to have it.\u00a0 I might want to try for a K-12 job in the future.\u00a0 I imagine there are advantages and disadvantages to working in public education and I’ll know more about them once I’ve been working for Kaplan for a little while.\u00a0 We’ll see how things go.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
