{"id":568,"date":"2011-02-26T14:38:19","date_gmt":"2011-02-26T19:38:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.maryjoandwill.com\/?p=568"},"modified":"2011-02-26T14:38:19","modified_gmt":"2011-02-26T19:38:19","slug":"berlin-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.maryjoandwill.com\/?p=568","title":{"rendered":"Berlin"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Like Will said, we have a ton of pictures and videos from our trip to Berlin.\u00a0 We&#8217;ve been putting off the blogging, so I had better put down a bare bones outline of what we did so that we don&#8217;t forget it completely.<\/p>\n<p>We got there on Thursday in the evening.\u00a0 Jaci, Ben, and Mike were a bit tired, so we went to a grocery store to get some food and we cooked at our rented apartment.\u00a0 We sat around a bit, had a few beers, then we went to bed.<\/p>\n<p>On Friday, we went to the Holocaust Memorial and to Brandenburger Tor and to the Reichstag.\u00a0 Unfortunately, you have to register a week in advance for a tour of the Reichstag due to terrorist threats.\u00a0 We were a bit bummed.\u00a0 We met up with someone I know in Berlin, Marlena, and went out for some Mexican food.\u00a0 After that, we went to a little cafe for some cake.\u00a0 I&#8217;d say it was a good birthday \ud83d\ude00<\/p>\n<p>On Saturday, we went to a bunch of Museums.\u00a0 We tried to see a show at the Winter Garten, but we couldn&#8217;t get seats together that night, so we got some tickets for Sunday.\u00a0 The lady at the ticket booth was very nice.\u00a0 We asked her if she could recommend a place to eat.\u00a0 Unfortunately, the place she told us to go was too crowded, so we ended up eating at home again.\u00a0 We had hamburgers.<\/p>\n<p>On Sunday, we met Marlena for brunch at the Zuckerfee.\u00a0 We went to CheckPoint Charlie.\u00a0 After that, we were going to go to Legoland, but we decided it was too expensive. Then we went to the Communications Museum.\u00a0 After that, we went to our variety show at the Winter Garten.\u00a0 It was a good show.\u00a0 After the show, Marlena went home for the night, and we went to a restaurant called Kaiser Kuchen.\u00a0 I had Flammkuchen.\u00a0 Will had a big burger.<\/p>\n<p>On Monday, we went to the Fernsehturm.\u00a0 After that, we went to the DDR Museum, and we got some CurryWurst.\u00a0 Marlena came over after we got home and we ordered pizza and generally sat around.\u00a0 Jaci, Ben, and Mike got all packed.<\/p>\n<p>On Tuesday, they caught their Taxi to the airport.\u00a0 Will and I checked out of the apartment and went to the Berlin Wall Memorial.\u00a0 We met Marlena at her place, she fed us, and we watched a movie called KeinOhrHasen.\u00a0 It&#8217;s German.<\/p>\n<p>On Wednesday, we had KFC for lunch.\u00a0 Then we went to a Ritter Sport place where there is a small exhibit about how they make Ritter Sport and you can choose the mix ins for your very own chocolate bar that they make in front of you.\u00a0 And they also have the traditional varieties for sale.\u00a0 After that, we went to the Stasi Museum.\u00a0 The Stasi were the East German secret police.\u00a0 We got to see a bunch of hidden camera devices and learn about how they would collect scent samples from suspected dissidents so that they could find them using dogs if necessary.\u00a0 Then we took Marlena out for pizza and after that, we played Settlers of Catan.<\/p>\n<p>On Thursday, we sent a bunch of our postcards (hopefully they arrive) and mostly sat around until it was time to go to the train station.<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s mostly the bare bones.\u00a0 Somewhere in there, we went souvenir shopping and ate a D\u00f6ner Kebap.\u00a0 I&#8217;m sure you&#8217;ll get a more detailed picture when we do a more thorough blog post.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Like Will said, we have a ton of pictures and videos from our trip to Berlin.\u00a0 We&#8217;ve been putting off the blogging, so I had better put down a bare bones outline of what we did so that we don&#8217;t forget it completely.
