Fair!

This evening after my German class, we went over to a fair that Mary Jo learned about from her new students. We actually walked along the river a ways first, stopping at a couple of parks (oh man – we need to go back for pictures! *tease), and a small outdoor amphitheater.

The fair itself is exactly what you’d see at home, with just a few exceptions. First, there were three bumper car rides. That seemed excessive. Second, the food is obviously going to be different. We tried something called a Knabberwurst. It’s like a little smokey wrapped in dough, but this thing is a foot long and deep fried in front of you. It wasn’t bad. Maybe a bit spicy for me, but Mary Jo seemed to enjoy it.

The fair also had multiple candy shops and a couple of toy stands. I’m not sure what is with these Austrians and their toys, but I love it. I still can’t believe I haven’t gotten anything yet. There is one shop that needs special mentioning. We nearly didn’t notice it, but one of the booths was selling medical tools. Like, super fingernail clippers, dentist mirrors, and picks. It was a little odd.

We walked around, ate, had some ice cream, and bought some candies for later. We then walked back across the river, using a different bridge, and worked our way home. We’re now just chilling out before heading to bed. We tried a few of our treats. I had a chocolate covered pear and Mary Jo had chocolate covered strawberries and banana chunks. They were both tasty. I was surprised at how perfectly ripe the pear was. I don’t know what I was expecting, but considering those things are only ripe for 15 minutes, it was shocking to have it be nearly spot on.
