Update

We’ve had a couple of busy days here, so the blogging kind of went to the bottom of the pile!

Last Tuesday was a national holiday. It’s literally called “National Holiday”. That’s all the info I have on it. we spent the day being supremely lazy. I’m not sure we even left the room. It was rather nice.

Wednesday was one of those busy days for Mary Jo again. She had class at 8AM, didn’t get back until noon-ish, and then had to go back at 5PM to meet with some students! It was busy, but it was the only day she really did stuff. It kind of sucks she doesn’t get more experience. The hope is that things will pick up later.

Thursday was a light day, but the evening was the best part. The Austro American society that sponsored that city tour we went on had a Halloween thing. It was just a little movie night. They showed Interview With The Vampire. Maybe not the scariest thing ever, but it was still fun. Prior to that, Mary Jo met with the president of the society with the other teaching assistants. She’ll have to tell you what went on at he meeting, because I have no idea!

Today Mary Jo didn’t have any classes, so we went to the gym, over did it, then came back home. After a quick shower, we decided to pop over to the ARS Electronica center, this museum that combines art with digital technology. They had a few neat things, but it was a little boring overall. A couple of interesting things were the face modeling station, the fabrication lab, and the 3D drawing station.

The face modeling station had you sit in front of a projector, it took a scan of your face, then projected it onto a wall in 3D. They had a little control to rotate and zoom in. It was kind of neat. The fabrication lab had stations to draw things in 3D, then a 3D printer would actually make them for you. You could also do 2D paper models that used an automated cutter to do whatever shape you wanted. There was a class in there, otherwise I would have tried it. The 3D drawing station had a wand and 3D glasses. You used the wand to draw in 3D. It would have been great, but the wand sucked. It made nothing but squiggly lines. Makes me wonder how it was so bad when the Wii has pretty decent 3D movement tracking. Seems like it shouldn’t have been a problem.

We came back and crashed for a bit, then Mary Jo went out to see a movie with her German partner. She put an ad online for someone to speak German with. In exchange, Mary Jo speaks English to the partner. They’ve met a few times before. She’s there right now.

So there’s your update. The podcast I’ve been doing also released a little show about the podcast and a full episode. Check them out at The Zipline Show. While you’re there, take our poll! 😀
