Saalbach Day 1

Well, we’re in the mountains. We grabbed a train from Linz this morning and started the big travel. We arrived in Salzburg a little over an hour later. We waited there until the train for Zell am See arrived. Yeah, that’s a city name. Once we arrived there, we waited half an hour for a bus. Once the bus arrived, we got on that and did another 20 minutes to Saalbach. Then we had to find the hotel. That wasn’t too bad, but there’s a lot of uphill here.

We did manage to find the place and get all checked in. Here’s the little room video we did. 🙂

We spent the afternoon walking around admiring the view.

The View

Of course the problem “The View” is that it kind of puts the whole skiing thing in perspective.

Mountain

And by that I mean the “AAAAAHHHHHHH WE’RE GONNA DIE” perspective.

Specks

Just to explain a bit. The second photo is a zoomed in version of the first. Those specks are people. I already know I will not survive this. Mary Jo might, but I’m doomed.

After “The View” we went through the main part of the city will all the shops, hotels, and bars.

Main part

After the runnings abouts, we returned to the hotel for a little down time. A few hours later we had dinner. Breakfast and dinner are included in the room price, so we’d be crazy not to take advantage! Furthermore, when I type “dinner” I mean “fancy salad bar, full place settings, bread on the table, soup course, main course, dessert course, and side cheese table”. They go pretty all out. There’s a candle on the table. All the food even looks like the fancy stuff you see on TV. It’s actually a little odd to be sitting there eating that kind of stuff.

This evening we had the salad bar with lettuces, little green things, a mix of peppers, a mix of pepper chunks and roast beef, corn, hard boiled egg halves, various dressings, shrimp, and some weird thing with gigantic chunks of feta in it. Man, the salad bar was amazing. Then we moved on to the soup. It was a vegetable soup broth with a fried dumpling filled with cheese. Also very tasty. Then the main course arrived and consisted of a little goober of potatoes (scalloped), a chunk of zucchini, kohlrabi, and mystery vegetable, a single fancy looking tiny carrot, and then this 3×6 inch thick chunk of roast beef. *drool* Dessert was no less impressive with steaming chocolate cake served with a smudge of whipped cream, a little scoop of ice cream, chocolate sauce, and half a strawberry.

We left fairly stuffed. We didn’t even make it to the cheese table. Yeah, and entire table filled with various chunks of cheese.

There’s no telling what breakfast will be like tomorrow.

And we haven’t even done anything with those dang mountains yet!
