Berlin (Day 5)

Monday was an important day, mainly because it started out with Ben and I recording our podcast for the week. We decided to go all out with it and add video. We set up four different cameras to record the whole thing.

Watching Us

I got the audio edited on the way back from Berlin, but I’m still sitting on 10GB of video that needs to be edited into something reasonable. We’ll see how that goes.

More Podcasting

Once we got out of the apartment, we went back to Alexander Platz. Remember that? They had the GIANT tower? No? Maybe this will help:

TV Tower

That’s called the “Fernsehturm” or just TV Tower in English. There’s a restaurant and a viewing platform up there… so up we went! The elevator goes 300 meters in something like 40 seconds. It makes your ears pop. Once we got up there though, you can see pretty much the entire city of Berlin. You can see the cathedral:

Berliner Dom

Crazy courtyards in the middle of city blocks:

And even the apartment where we stayed for the week.

Our Apartment

It’s actually kinda behind that… oh never mind. That’s boring.

We even did another video postcard from The Zipline Show. Check it out over at The Zipline Show Website.

After the tower, we headed over to the DDR/GDR museum (depending on if you say “Deutsche Demokratische Republik” or “German Democratic Republic”). On the way though, we saw a drained fountain with various statues. Everyone else was playing, so we wanted to, too.

HEEEYA

The GDR museum (I use “GDR” because “DDR” reminds me too much of this), is all about life in East Germany. It was pretty interesting actually. It’s a very “hands-on” museum (the best kind), so we got to play with everything. They had a plastic body car there that you could sit in. So we did.

Jaci and Mary Jo also sat in it, but they must have run into something insane or something.

HUH?!

Of course Ben ran into his fair share of scary things:

Scared Ben

I just sat around and watched all the craziness.

Craziness

After the museum, we were getting pretty tired (and a little grumpy!), so we went back to catch the train home. We had to make a small detour to get some currywurst though.

We got home and just kind of vegetated. Marlena came over again and we ordered pizza. We chatted a bit, then dropped dead from exhaustion. Wait, no, that’s wrong. Ben, Jaci, and Mike all had to pack. Because on Day 6, they go home.
