Haircut

Well, the day finally came. This morning I went over and got my hair cut. This was a rather trepidacious event for me. I’m always just a little nervous about haircuts. I never fully recovered from an “incident” when I was younger.

Mom nearly sliced my ear off. Needless to say, she’s on the haircut blacklist…. forever. Given my past and the fact that this is a whole different country with a massive language barrier, you can imagine how nervous I was about this. The thing was though, I was in desperate need:

Bad Hair

Yeah, that’s what my hair looked like when I got up. Nothing can really be done to tame it either, short of a full bottle of gel. Now, if it stayed like that, it might have been OK, but it kind of has this tendency to get worse as the day goes on. By the time supper rolls around, I’m scaring children:

Really Bad Hair

This morning I woke up the Mary Jo interpreter and dragged her over to the local hair cutting place thingy. We were asked to wait in a back room and the stylist would be with us in a few minutes. While we were sitting back there, we found a German Reader’s Digest. I made Mary Jo read the jokes page. I guess there’s a word that means both “cat” and “hangover”, so it was funny.

We also found a book of haircuts. I flipped through it, hoping to find a picture to point and grunt at. Most of the hair styles were rather… gravity defying. Far too much volume for me. Toward the back I did manage to find something that was almost right. I had Mary Jo point at it, grunt, and then say “longer on top”.

OK, that’s an exaggeration. The stylist was actually very nice and was used to foreigners coming in from the dorm. She and Mary Jo actually chatted a bit in German, which I think Mary Jo enjoyed. Before you knew it, I had my hair cut, we paid, and left. It actually went really well. I’d recommend this place to anyone. I’d actually say I got a better haircut than in the States. Come on over, it’ll be the best $3000 haircut you ever get!

The rest of today will be just sitting around mostly. Mary Jo has a meeting at 1 and I have my class at 4. After that we might go out with the people we made dinner with the other night. Should be interesting.

Oh, did you want to see the final product?

Good Hair

Alright, maybe a little less “creepy gel” next time.

THERE YOU GO EMBELLISHING THE “INCIDENT” AGAIN! I did not almost slice your ear off. I just nicked the top of your ear and ears are simply a part of the body that bleed a lot. And I don’t think it was the actually cutting of your ear that bothered you so badly. It was all that blood.
You look marvelous with your haircut.
