Payday

Most of the English assistants got paid today (including me).  We had a little get together with the other English assistants to celebrate our new found wealth.  There were fancy hors d’oeuvres like caviar with cream cheese on crackers, pears and blue cheese wrapped with prosciutto (a kind of really thinly sliced ham).  As well as tuna on cucumbers and figs with cheese, honey, and thyme.  My favorite was the smoked salmon.  Also, champagne.

Not much else to report.  My school won’t be keeping me very busy in the coming weeks, so I might see about visiting a different school in the area.  It’s the school where my students student teach, so it’s sort of affiliated with the teacher college.  I think it could be a good thing, because it will be closer to the kind of experience I’m after.

Mary Jo, that is just marvelous! Dive right in and make the most of the time you have there. Also clubs -like we would have 4-H, Boy Scouts, church youth groups- that might enjoy a real live, English speaking, American speaking on US education, life in rural America, etc.
Sounds like quite a party! You could have made your pickles wrapped in ham……….do they have pickles? I’m anxious to hear about the other English assistants, who they are, where they come from, etc. Are any of them married?

  • There was one girl at the orientation seminar who was married, but I don’t remember what city she was stationed in. There are two other girls from Minnesota and a guy from Milwaukee.

I think they do have pickles. That’s actually a great idea.

I’ve been hoping to join a choir, but I’ve been a bit too lazy so far.
