To Stockholm

The big 8 our flight went OK over all.  The plane had little TVs built into the seats in front of us, so we got to watch movies the whole way.  That bit was nice… but a hair depressing.  Before we took off I was looking through the selections.  You know what they had?  Iron Man 2.  Yeah.  I was darned excited.  As soon as we took off, the selections changed.  I checked the little printed thing and found out that they show different movies going from Sweden to the US than from the US to Sweden.  Jerks.

At least it had a decent view:

We had some pretty decent supper in flight.  Meat, taters, cheesecake.  No complaints.  Toward the end of the flight we were getting a little tired of sitting for so long.  The whole timeshift thing was also getting to us.  We hadn’t slept yet, and we were already about 19 hours into the whole thing.

As we got closer to the Stockholm airport, we noticed something very weird.  There was no city.  It was just farms and trees and a dang airport sitting in the middle of it all.  Kind of weird!  We got landed and found our way into the terminal.  After customs, we immediately had to go through security… again.  Swedish security is not nearly as crazy as US security.  It was nice.  The pat down lady was very gentle.

Now, this Swedish airport is incredible.  Hardwood floors, fancy architecture, lots of glass and exposed steel, stone floors in some areas, and large open spaces make it an absolute joy to be there.  If it weren’t for the crazy currency and bathrooms that essentially have three tiny bathrooms inside them, I’d stay there for a week.  Seriously though, the “bathroom” is a room with a sink, hand (paper) towels, and three smaller rooms with toilets, a sink, and more hand towels in each.  It was strange.

We sat around Stockholm for about an hour and a half.  We each took a 30 minute nap in rotation.  We also found out that the airport is built away from the city.  You can take the Airport Express bullet train and get there in only 20 minutes!

The final flight approached quickly.  Next post: going to Germany.
