To Linz

The train ride was pretty nice. I actually cat napped the whole way, but Mary Jo paid attention to the scenery. I did notice this insane looking tower though. It was extra odd because I could have sworn I had seen the same tower in Frankfurt. Oh, we also watched “The Hangover”. It was OK. I don’t know. I had heard really good things, but I just don’t think it lived up to the hype.

We got into Linz in record time… slower than expected record time, but whatever. We got off the train and squiggled over to the main train terminal.

Side note: Mary Jo doesn’t want me saying weird stuff, since this might go on the shared blog, so: “Oooooogggyyy booooggggyyyy booooo!!!!”

The next part of the trip involved getting a taxi to bring us to our hostel for the night. That was interesting. Mary Jo couldn’t understand the guy’s German. We made it through it and got to the hostel. We munched on snacks we had brought and sipped some drinks from a vending machine. The next morning we got up, showered, and had some complimentary breakfast. It was quite nice. Actually, that was only yesterday! My internal clock is all wonky.

After breakfast we packed up and caught a train toward our actual room. We’re staying in one of the dorms for the school Mary Jo is teaching at. We had to do a little walking to find the place, but we got here and got all checked in. The room is fairly nice. It’s a college dorm room though, so it’s small. There are some good points though:

The shower is nice. There are desks and plenty of closet/shelf space. It has a small refrigerator built into the closet.

We’ll have a picture/video tour of it up at some point.

There is one major problem with it for me though: it has two individual, unmovable beds. Seems like a bad way to spend the first year of marriage. Oh well I guess. I knew there would be sacrifices.

After we got all checked in, we went in search of a few essentials. Mary Jo ran the map:

The toilet paper was easily found and purchased. The bed sheets were a different story. We spent about 6 hours walking around downtown, during a festival with a bunch of people in laderhosen (HA!), and we didn’t find any bed sheets. We eventually gave up and went home.

That was an abridged version of yesterday (Friday). We also did a little window shopping and ate at a pizza place. I should mention that we also ran into internet troubles. Supposedly we can just plug in and go, but it wasn’t that simple. I won’t get technical on you, but we didn’t/don’t have internet. I’m writing this Saturday and saving it on my computer. We’ve been hitting an internet cafe to let people know we go here, but it’s just not the same. Hopefully we get that fixed soon.

OK, now onto the next post: Saturday. Maybe we can get back on track with this blogging!
