The Big Trip Day 13 – London

We got up early, had some cereal, and headed for some museums. Specifically, the science museum.

Hopefully, it wouldn’t rain much because Will’s umbrella snapped in half. Of course, because it’s London, it did rain. But it’s odd because it will rain heavily for about ten minutes and then it will be sunny and then half an hour later, it will be raining again.

We cut through Hyde Park again on our way to the museum. There were some guys feeding the birds. It was ridiculous. One of the birds actually sat on one of their hand to eat the bread. You can see it in this picture. And the swans came right up to them.

You can also see some brown duck type animals in the crowd. We think they’re adolescent swans.

We got to the museum, but it doesn’t open until 10 so we had to wait about 15 minutes. There’s not much to say about the museum. It was pretty cool. They had a lot of neat hands on physics experiments. They had tons of exhibits about inventions and technology. They also had a floor about the history of medicine. Let’s just say we’re glad we live in the 21st century. The exhibit about space travel was also really neat.

Will’s favorite things in the museum were the space shuttle rocket engines and the Cesium atomic clock.

And he took a picture of some super computer.

There were a few things we didn’t see at the museum because our feet hurt and we were hungry. On the street the other day, someone was handing out cards for a 10% discount at Mr. Fish. It was near the hostel, so we headed there so we could check fish and chips off my list. Chips is the word here for French fries. It was a long walk. Will’s umbrella, which had already snapped in half, did not handle it well.

The mission for fish and chips was successful. We had some crispy breaded cod. Will says, “it had the skin on, which was frightening, but it was actually pretty good.” I would tend to agree.

After that we went to the hostel, settled ourselves in the kitchen and enjoyed some dessert in the form of Cherry Bakewells. They’re little tarts with some jam and cake at the bottom, covered with a kind of white frosting with half a cherry on top. We also found some Mountain Dew “Energy.” I’ve been having hankerings for Mountain Dew. Unfortunately, it’s just not the same.

Like I mentioned in an earlier post, we also happened upon some Walker Shortbread.

We also enjoyed some Strongbow Hard Cider. We couldn’t drink all of it though and we had an early flight in the morning, so we gave two cans to some of the hostel workers in the kitchen. They were pleased.

That was mostly it. We had an early flight the next day, so we got everything ready and went to bed.
