Exploring Seattle – Space Needle

The Space Needle was neat.  Yes, we took pictures, mostly because there’s not much else to do up there.  They do have some binoculars on posts and you can buy snacks.  And there are some maps you can manipulate.  One thing that I thought was particularly neat was a thing that showed the area around the Space Needle and you could do a time lapse on it to see it change throughout the day and night.  Of course, they have a gigantic gift shop in the bottom.

Let’s look at our daytime photos shall we?  I don’t think I need to tell you to click to embiggen.  (I know “embiggen” isn’t a real word.)

Will said something funny.  Rather than, “say cheese,” he said something like, “pretend  you’re happy with your sham marriage!”  Oh he’s a funny guy, that one.  Also, for just a second when I was looking around up there I thought to myself, “hey, shouldn’t we be able to see the Space Needle from this high up?”  Oh, we make a good pair.

It was windy up there, and cold.  Let’s see more pictures.

To get this shot, I had to stick the camera outside of the guard wires.  If the camera didn’t have a wrist strap I probably wouldn’t have risked it.  Will also expressed some nervousness about dropping the camera.

One of these buildings is the one Will works in.  It’s the one that’s surrounded by all those other buildings.  He say he’ll add an arrow later so it’s clear which one.

They know how to advertise right next to the Space Needle.  We also took a video of a complete circle around the observation deck.  You can hear the wind affecting the audio.  Too bad it was cloudy so you couldn’t see any mountains.  Oh well.  I’m sure we’ll be back when we have visitors.

Now let’s see the views from the Space Needle at night.  They have a special deal with the CityPass where you get two trips up the Space Needle.  Speaking of trips up the Space Needle, the elevators are on the outside of it and the doors have windows, so when you’re going up you can see everything.  Will manages this by standing in the back of the car, clutching the railing, and trying not to think about what’s happening.  After we get out of the elevator he’s fine.

Right, pictures.

There were a lot more people up there at night.  I think we got there around 9:30.  The wind had died down; it really felt warmer up there than it had been that morning.

In this one, you can see part of Elliot Bay on the right.  That green part on the bottom right is what catches you if you manage to wriggle through the guard wires and fall.  On the tip of the bay there you can see a half circle of light.  That’s the big Ferris wheel.  I like how the streets glow orange.  I guess it contributes to light pollution, but I think it looks neat and it makes the city feel warm.

The Ferris wheel is much more visible in this one.

Also, McDonalds really know how to advertise.  Finally, let’s take a walk at night.

And that was the Space Needle.
