German Class

I’m in a German class.  I went to the first meeting yesterday (Monday).  It was a bit of an ordeal getting into the class.  It was full, so I put myself on the waitlist.  They called my cell while I was doing stuff and they left a voice mail saying there was a place open.  I called back a few hours later to tell them I did want to be in the class, but they told me I had been unreachable, so they found someone else to fill the space 🙁  I was pretty disappointed.  But then they called on Monday morning again with another place open.  This time I answered and then I was happy 🙂

The first thing we did at class was to write on three post it notes our name, our first language, and our favorite food.  Then we stuck them to the chalkboard and each person took a different three post its and walked around trying to find the owners.  So we had to ask each other things like, “Do you like pizza?” After that, we brainstormed questions we might ask people we had just met.  Then we got into pairs and interviewed each other using the questions.  After our interview was done, we introduced our partner to the rest of the class.

After all of the interviews were done, the teacher corrected some common mistakes that we had made during our introductions.  Our homework for Wednesday is to draw an outline of a person, and then color the languages we speak onto our person.  Then we’re supposed to write short texts about why we put the languages where we did.  I might scan and post it later so you can get a better idea of what I’m talking about.

German class is exciting.
