German Class 2

Mere minutes after Joni posted about her German Class, I’m posting about mine! It’s like we plan these things or something…

While Mary Jo just started her class, I’ve been going to mine for two and a half weeks now. It’s gone very well so far. I don’t feel lost, and I’m actually learning new stuff. Soon I will be able to maybe think about responding to someone in German if they clearly, slowly ask me a pre-scripted question I have practiced a lot! Hahahaha!

In other news, today was a weird day, mainly because I had a job interview. Mary Jo got an email through her school wondering if she could teach some English classes on the side for this little company. The Fulbright program doesn’t dig that sort of thing, so she passed, but made me email the guy to see if I could do it. (The initial email did mention me, so it wasn’t totally out of left field). After a little back and forth we arranged a meeting for today.

I managed to get down there on time after some harrowing bus antics. The guy I had been emailing was out sick, but I met with a couple other people. The position was for business communication, so they wanted to know about my business and teaching experience. It also turns out that they generally work with IT companies for employee training. Well then. I basically walked out of there with the job… mainly because I don’t think they’re even talking to anyone else. So, come the middle of March, I’ll be training some sales people at an IT company on how to do the business Englishes good.

On a personal note, I was pretty nervous and not-wanty-to-do-it before the interview. All my reservations still hold, but at least now I’m not worrying about getting down there and dressing up and whatnot. I think I was just a little on edge from not sleeping well. I swear I hear rustling at night…
